Forbes Medi-Tech Inc. is a life sciences company dedicated to the research, development and commercialization of innovative products for the prevention and treatment primarily of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Our vision is to develop and market products along a treatment continuum that consumers, healthcare professionals and specialized research and healthcare institutions will identify, recommend and seek. What is the foundation of Forbes‚ technology?

Forbes‚ products are based on core sterol technology. Sterols are lipid-like compounds found in plants, fruits and vegetables. The Company has developed technology to extract sterols from byproducts of the forest industry and other natural resources, which are used to produce a number of useful products such as food ingredients, dietary supplement ingredients and compounds for the development of prescription pharmaceuticals.

What does Forbes make and sell?

Forbes has two main lines of business:
1) Nutraceutical - functional food and dietary supplement ingredients and
2) Pharmaceutical Research - the development of prescription pharmaceuticals for the treatment of cardiovascular and related diseases.

In the Nutraceutical area, Forbes has developed a phytosterol(plant sterol)-based ingredient clinically proven to reduce cholesterol called Reducol™. A cholesterol-lowering dietary supplement enriched with Reducol™ has been launched in the United States by a leading supplement manufacturer, Pharmavite, LLC of California. Pharmavite introduced Nature Made Cholest-Off™, which is sold through mass merchandise, drug and grocery stores in the US.

In the Pharmaceutical Research area, Forbes is developing FM-VP4, a cholesterol-lowering prescription pharmaceutical, which is an amphipathic (water and lipid-soluble) analogue of a phytostanol, in Phase II clinical trials. Additionally, Forbes is developing the FM-VPx Library of Compounds. These compounds may have additional benefits including: triglyceride-lowering, increasing HDL (good cholesterol), anti-obesity, anti-diabetic, and anti-inflammatory indications providing the Company with a foundation for further research.
