Forbes‚ products are based on core sterol technology. Sterols are lipid-like compounds found in plants, fruits and vegetables. Forbes has two main lines of business: 1) Nutraceutical - functional food and dietary supplement ingredients and 2) Pharmaceutical Research - the development of prescription pharmaceuticals for the treatment of cardiovascular and related diseases. In the Nutraceutical area, Forbes has developed a phytosterol(plant sterol)-based ingredient clinically proven to reduce cholesterol called Reducol™. A cholesterol-lowering dietary supplement enriched with Reducol™ has been launched in the United States by a leading supplement manufacturer, Pharmavite, LLC of California. Pharmavite introduced Nature Made Cholest-Off™, which is sold through mass merchandise, drug and grocery stores in the US. In the Pharmaceutical Research area, Forbes is developing FM-VP4, a cholesterol-lowering prescription pharmaceutical, which is an amphipathic (water and lipid-soluble) analogue of a phytostanol, in Phase II clinical trials. Additionally, Forbes is developing the FM-VPx Library of Compounds.
